Cannabis simple syrup makes it extremely easy to infuse your cannabinoids into pretty much any beverage or recipe that requires sugar. It is very easy to make and lasts a long time when stored properly. Weed simple syrup (aka sugar syrup) can be made weak, or strong, depending on your personal preference. In this recipe, we will be using cannabis buds – however you can also use trim/shake or concentrates like wax or hashish. This recipe also works with CBD hemp flower to make a CBD infused simple syrup rather than a THC syrup.
The only ingredients you need to make this weed syrup (apart from the cannabis) are sugar, water, and vegetable glycerine. If you do not have vegetable glycerine, check the baking section in a supermarket or you can pick some up at your local health food shop.

If you are looking for a machine that you can make a strong cannabis syrup with, as well as many other things like cannabutter, tinctures, and even infused gummies – look no further. The LEVO II Oil Infuser makes the process of edible making extremely easy and hassle free. You can even decarb with it! For cheaper options, check out our list of weed infusion machines.
What recipes can i use THC syrup in?
You can use this infused sugar syrup in almost any recipe (both food, and drinks) that requires sugar. You can even just drizzle it on top of your favourite desserts, or into your morning cereal for a nice dose of THC to start the day. The possibilities are endless!
Here are some recipes that you can use this infused syrup in:
- Cannabis Infused Coffee
- Weed Infused Grapefruit Lemonade
- Weed Infused Pancakes
- Cannabis Banana Smoothie
As well as all the recipes listed above, you can use this syrup as an infuser or sweetener in these cannabis infused co*cktail recipes.
What type of sugar can i use?
You can use whatever type of sugar you desire. The type of sugar you use will affect the colour and taste of the syrup. Use white sugar to get a clear coloured syrup, and brown sugar to get an amber coloured syrup.
For those who need to avoid sugar, you can also make a sugar-free version. Check out our guide on how to make sugar-free cannabis syrup.
Can I add flavour to this cannabis syrup?
Absolutely! You can infuse the flavours of pretty much any fruit, spice, or herb into this cannabis sugar syrup. To add flavour to your syrup, simply add whatever fruit/herb/spice you want during cooking then strain it out with a filter or sieve at the end.
Here are some flavour ideas:
- Lemon
- Orange
- Strawberry
- Blueberry
- Mint
- Vanilla
- Lavender

Ingredients
- 3.5 – 7g dried cannabis (add more or less if you prefer)
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 cups water
- 2 tbsp vegetable glycerin (you can get this at your local health food shop)
Instructions
To start, decarboxylate your cannabis to activate the THC. Preheat your oven to 240F/115C. Line a baking tray with parchment paper then evenly spread your roughly ground cannabis on top. Cover the tray with foil and crumple the edges to tightly seal it. Bake in the preheated oven for 35 minutes. Give the tray a light shake half way through to help the cannabis decarb evenly.
Bring the water to a boil on low heat and add the sugar. Stir frequently until the sugar is fully dissolved in the water.
Once the sugar has dissolved, add your decarboxylated cannabis and let it gently boil for 15 minutes. Stir frequently and do not allow it to get too hot and over boil. Too high of a temperature can damage the THC and other cannabinoids.
After letting the mixture low boil for 15 minutes, lower the heat and add the vegetable glycerin. Let the mixture simmer for 6 to 7 minutes while regularly stirring. The mixture will now have started to thicken up into a syrup. If the syrup is too thin for your liking, allow to simmer for a few more minutes to thicken it up.
Take the hot syrup off the heat and allow to cool down. While it's cooling down, prepare a small strainer or cheese cloth which we will use to strain out the cannabis bits from the syrup.
Pour the warm syrup through your strainer or cheese cloth to remove the weed bits. When the cannabis infused simple syrup has cooled down, it is now ready to use. Try it out in your favourite canna-co*cktail recipe or add it to any drink. Enjoy!
Store syrup in the fridge for best results.

What should my weed infused syrup look like when it’s done?
Your infused syrup will be anywhere from an almost clear colour, to a yellow or golden brown colour. The colour of your syrup entirely depends on the type of sugar and cannabis used, as well as the quantity of cannabis used.

If you want to give your THC syrup an attractive colour you can add a bit of food colouring. I like to colour code my syrups based on what strain I used to make it 🙂Reply

what is the best way to add flavouring to this weed syrup? can i add flavour after cooking it?Reply
Percival Con June 4, 2021 at 3:07 pm
Depending on what type of flavouring you are using, you could add it during cooking or afterwards. Powdered flavourings will be better added during cooking to give them a chance to dissolve so you are not left with visible flavouring granules in your THC syrup. Liquid flavourings should be fine to add after cooking but i would also advise adding them during cooking (towards the end), just so they mix into the syrup properly. Flavourings mix better when hot/warm in my experienceReply

Tried adding grape koolaid and it worked well. Could see some small granules in the syrup but they dissolved when I mixed with sprite. I think I will try dissolving the koolaid before adding next timeReply

I made this recipe yesterday and squeezed 1 lemon and 1 orange into the water right after adding the sugar to boiling water. The syrup came out just the right consistency I was aiming for and its delicious when mixed with fizzy lemonade! It adds a hint of orange flavor to the lemonade. I will definitely be playing around with some other fruit juices for future syrup batches. I think I want to try a super sweet mandarin orange syrup nextI saved a few old squeezy honey bottles and used them to store this canna syrup. Makes it very easy to squeeze a little into drinks 🙂

Do I need to refrigerate this canna-syrup or is it ok in cupboard?Reply
Percival Con June 27, 2021 at 11:01 am
It’s best stored in the fridge however I’ve accidentally left a bottle of THC syrup in a drawer for almost 2 weeks before and it seemed absolutely fine.

Is it better to use liquid or powder food coloring to color the weed syrup? And when is best time to add itReply
Percival Con June 27, 2021 at 11:05 am
I would say liquid, but you can also use powdered food colouring too. You can mix the powdered food colouring with a bit of water before adding it to your syrup to help dissolve the powder. It’s best to add it towards the end of cooking but you can also add it afterwards if you prefer.

Mine is to watery what can I do!

If too watery, leave it on the heat and let some of the water evaporate and it’ll thicken up. Vice versa, if too thick you can add a little bit of water.

Decarboxylate your concentrate then you can follow this same recipe but use the decarbed concentrate instead of cannabis.

Mixing lecithin into the recipe can help avoid separation issues like that and won’t affect the taste.

Once my simple syrup is made. How much do I add for a 1 gallon picture for co*cktails?Reply
Percival Con September 17, 2023 at 10:14 pm
This entirely depends on how strong your syrup is and how potent you want the infused drinks to be. I use about 2 table spoons of infused syrup per 250ml glass of soda

What do you think about adding liquid flavored syrup like Monin to the recept ? It’s better to add when boiling or after finishing? Thanks ! Perfect recipe
Reply
Percival Con July 9, 2021 at 4:28 pm
Adding Monin syrups to the recipe actually works very well! I received a set of Monin co*cktail syrups for my birthday and used a whole mini bottle of the blue curacao in my last batch of infused simple syrup. It added a nice colour and flavour to the syrup.
I would say it’s best to add in the last 5 minutes of cooking, allowing a few minutes for it to blend together.
Let us know what syrup flavours you’ve tried 🙂

I wanted to use fresh fruit for flavoring when do I add in the fruit?I have infused honey would I used tht in place of the granule sugar or use both?when do I add the honey?Reply
Percival Con September 19, 2021 at 4:30 pm
Hi MiShell. I would suggest turning the fruit into a syrup first then adding that to your cannabis infused simple syrup or infused honey. To make the fruit syrup simply boil it with water and sugar and mash the fruit while its cooking. It will gradually thicken into a syrup and then you can strain out the fruit pulp.
Best time to add it is towards the end of cooking so it has a few minutes to mix together while still hot. But you can also add after cooking.

I’m wondering if cooking the weed twice, 1st during decarb and 2nd during boiling will over cook it? Has anyone tried skipping the decarb and gone straight to the low boil?
Reply
Percival Con November 26, 2021 at 6:22 pm
I’ve skipped decarbing a few times before and noticed a noticeable difference in the potency (weaker).
There are people who skip decarbing and swear by it, but from what I’ve seen they infuse for much longer periods to make up for not decarbing (7-14+ hours).
I would say if you don’t have much time to infuse, use the decarb + infuse method. Otherwise, you can also get some good results with the no decarb long-infusion method in which it will decarb itself slowly during cooking.

if I add more flower do I need to add more glycerin F.E 1/2 oz?
Reply
Percival Con October 19, 2022 at 4:40 pm
Yes. Depending on how much more flower you use, you can use that to calculate how much more glycerin to add. (Ex: double the cannabis, double the glycerin).
However, people have followed this recipe and not used glycerin (due to not having any) and have still reported “great” effects from the syrup so I wouldnt worry too much about adding an exact amount.
